President Trump signed a massive budget bill into law, extending the 2017 tax cuts, adding tax new tax cuts (workers and seniors) and boosting defense/ICE funding while cutting Medicare and clean energy. 

August 1 is the new deadline for countries to reach trade deals with the U.S. to avoid steep tariffs that were due to kick in on July 9. 

The U.S. private sector had 33,000 fewer jobs in June,  per the payroll company ADP, badly missing expectations for a 100,000 increase. 

U.S. online shopping, except for groceries, saw a major slowdown in 2nd quarter 2025,  after a jump in the 1st quarter to front-run the impact of U.S. tariffs.

Google continues to invest in nuclear fusion, with a new deal to buy 200MW of fusion energy from a startup planning to have a fusion plant in place by the early 2030s.
