Philanthropic Planning
It’s not just what you give, it’s also how.
By supporting the people and causes you believe in, you’re putting your assets to some of their highest use.
We can help you explore the possibilities of giving in ways that increase the value of your gift to those who receive and support your larger philanthropic and financial goals.
A strategy for giving that aligns with your values and priorities
At LNW, we help develop and implement legacy and philanthropic plans that support each donor’s impact goals and aspirations. This typically includes a long-term strategy and rationale for giving and the vehicles that can most efficiently achieve the intended goals, ranging from direct gifts to nonprofits to Donor Advised Funds (DAFs), a charitable trust, a foundation, or project specific partnerships. Each element of a charitable giving plan serves a purpose and can be combined with the others for maximum benefit.
Your options for giving go well beyond cash. What to give when and to which organization is carefully considered in context of your needs and goals as well as those of the organization you want to support. Gifts of appreciated assets, for example, can provide multiple tax advantages. You may be able to deduct the market value of your donation and/or avoid capital gains taxes.
There are many types of non-cash donations you can make. From closely held business stock to in-kind donations, to contributions of time and expertise, we’re experts at helping you give in ways that are best for everyone involved.
Supporting what matters to you, now and for years to come
In addition to funding through donations of cash or other assets, LNW advisors can help you establish one or more Donor Advised Funds and include philanthropic gifts and trusts in your estate plan to create a lasting legacy.
If you’re ready to take your philanthropic work even further, we can support the creation and management of foundations and endowments to ensure ongoing funding over many generations. And because we believe in investing in the communities we work in and have relationships with local nonprofits, we can help you connect with (and learn) from nonprofit organizations so that you can give in the most helpful way possible.
Smart giving in the family
One of the most important ways our clients give is to family. Gifts of cash or other assets can support and celebrate those you love. Even here—and maybe especially given the complexities of family—it’s important to plan before giving. We can provide guidance built on decades of experience as you consider gifts to family members for anything from tuition and medical costs to birthdays and weddings. With a good plan, you can feel even better about your gift because you were smart about it.
