The U.S. economy added a healthy 227,000 jobs in November, with unemployment remaining a low 4.2%; U.S. stocks hit record highs.

Oil and gold prices rose after the Syrian government was toppled by rebels, changing the balance of power in the Middle East. 

China said it will ramp up economic stimulus in 2025 to similar levels as after the 2008 global financial crisis, to try and hit targeted 5% GDP growth amid the threat of stiff U.S. tariffs under Trump. 

President-elect Trump will nominate Paul Atkins to head the SEC, a Wall Street veteran supportive of cryptocurrency markets; Treasury Secretary nominee Scott Bessent is a hedge fund manager who backs higher U.S. tariffs. 

Facebook owner Meta is seeking to fund nuclear generating capacity of 1 to 4 GW (1 GW or gigawatt can power a medium-sized city), in addition to contracting for 12 gigawatts from renewable energy sources; U.S. tech giants are expanding into nuclear energy to power AI.
