Top-of-mind economic headlines as we start the week:

The US job market finished 2022 well, with nonfarm payrolls up 223,000 in Dec. and unemployment at just 3.5%, both better than expected.

US manufacturing activity contracted in both Oct. and Nov. after 29 straight months of expansion, per a key index.

The US trade deficit decreased in Nov., as imports fell more than exports, a sign of slowing consumer demand.

China opened its borders this past weekend for the first time in three years (due to Covid-19 restrictions and lockdowns).

There was a dramatic 22% drop in green bond issuance in 2022 to fund renewable energy, other sustainability efforts, largely attributable to higher interest rates.
